Category pages
A category page lists the products in one category — all your candles, or everything under Gifts.
Like the product page, you design it once as a template and every category uses it.
First time here? Read How shop pages work first — it covers the header and footer step.
Opening the template
Go to CMS › Project Settings › Shop › Templates and click the Edit Page icon next to Category Template.
What to put on it
Each piece pulls its content automatically, so the same layout serves every category.
The category name
Drag the Title element from the elements panel, under the Blog heading.
Or use a Text element: click the database icon, choose Auto in the first dropdown and Name in the second.
The category description
Drag a Text element, click the database icon, then Auto and Description.
The category image
Drag an Image element, click the database icon, then Auto, then either Custom or Original under Category Thumbnail URL.
To use it as a background instead, open the block settings, select the background image icon, then the database icon, then Auto, then Custom or Original under Category HD Thumbnail URL.
Use the HD version for backgrounds — a thumbnail stretched across a full-width block looks blurred.
The product listing
Drag the Products element onto the page and, under its Filter tab, select Auto.
Auto is what makes the listing show that category’s products. Without it every category page shows the same products.
Worth knowing
Products need categories first. A category page can only list what has been put in it — see Add products for assigning categories.
Link to these pages from your shop page using the Categories element, or customers will never reach them. See Your shop page.
Test with your emptiest category. A category with two products in it exposes layout problems that a full one hides.
